Let’s think of the GLESS network as a growing set of connected nodes, each with overlapping spheres of influence.
The nodes are the people and projects, existing in multidimensional space (physical, social, intellectual and spiritual). We each are involved in various projects, but the priority of the organizers is to nurture the connections, by enabling them and creating space for them to strengthen. We empower network members to awaken their agency and take responsibility for the stewardship of the bioregion by connecting with the land and each other, initiating projects, creating events, etc.
At the moment some network priorities, in no particular order, are…
Awareness through…
- Holding more informational public meetings throughout the GLESS bioregion
- Arranging meetings with influencers
- Ensuring an active presence at appropriate events, like CWRU Climate and Health month
- Maintaining an informative and engaging web-site and social media
Enabling connection through…
- Mapping membership, initiatives and projects (database management, asset mapping), and enabling members and the public to identify and connect with each other online.
- Creating a publicly accessible tagged calendar of events by and for network members
- Adopting and managing an online platform for folks to collaborate and plan projects and initiatives (I’m leaning toward Hylo given its alignment with the broader bioregioning movement)
- Encouraging the creation of geographic hubs and interest guilds to take on the work of building community in the bioregion
Building coherence through…
- Organizing a visioning retreat to deepen understanding and excitement about Bioregioning, and generate ideas about its possibilities
Support through…
- Developing a GLESS funding ecosystem through CoFundEco, BioFi (on Hylo), etc
There are others, but for now we propose to create circles to work on each of these priorities. Circles can collectively decide to use whatever platform or mode of communication/decision-making works for them, but should designate one member to be a link to the organizing circle. We can create space on Hylo for each circle to report on their work.
If you are interested in playing an organizational role in weaving the GLESS network, let us know what circle(s) you want to join by emailing Kelly. Feel free to share this email and invite others you think would be interested.
As always, please share your thoughts!
