A central goal of the GLESS network is to cultivate a grassroots approach to creating the conditions for the development of a symbiotic network, or social ecosystem, that will contribute to the development of a culture and identity unique to the Great Lake Erie Southern Shore Bioregion.
One outcome of this could be the development of a GLESS Bioregional Learning “Center” (BLC), or a more distributed network for the creation and sharing of knowledge of and by our own bioregion and its inhabitants.

BLC’s are an idea first proposed by systems thinker Donella Meadows and have the potential to weave together the many existing initiatives around place-based and indigenous wisdom and practice, regenerating local ecosystems from the soil on up. and relocalizing the economic, food, healthcare and other human life support systems. While we do not know precisely what a BLC in our bioregion will ultimately look like, we can create the conditions for a culture of bioregional learning to emerge.
